As both a teacher and a mom, Deb didn't want to write just any book! She wanted to write the type of book that she loved to read to her own children when they were little. It needed to have beautiful illustrations, fun rhyming text, and an element of surprise so kids wouldn't realize that they were actually practicing and learning something. It also needed to be short enough that parents wouldn't mind when their children begged to read it again and again. Most of all, it needed to be fun and engaging for the whole family.
